Choir
|
A mixed-voice choir has enriched the worship of First Presbyterian since the early 20th century, when it evolved out of a quartet of professional soloists. In its current incarnation the choir explores a variety of sacred music: classical masterworks, arrangements of early American folk hymns, and recently-composed pieces. No musical training is necessary to join the choir, though the ability to sing on pitch is expected, as is a basic grasp of musical notation. The choir rehearses both before and after the Sunday morning service.

Believing in the importance of nurturing the art of choral singing, we annually offer a limited number of scholarships to Allegheny College students who sing with the choir. Students are chosen on the basis of their vocal range, choral experience, and music-reading ability. Choral scholars are being sought for the 2026-2027 academic year! Contact the Music Director for further information. |
